Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) manifests in various harmful forms, including sextortion, deep fake pornography, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. These malicious acts predominantly occur on social media platforms, exploiting digital spaces to inflict harm and strip individuals, especially women and young people, of their online agency.

Effectively addressing TFGBV faces two major challenges:

1. Insufficient Legal Accountability: Current federal laws in the United States fall short in holding perpetrators accountable and fail to impose adequate responsibility on Big Tech companies for facilitating such abuse. This legal gap not only leaves victims and survivors unprotected but also creates an environment of impunity that emboldens perpetrators.
2. Lack of Education and Awareness: Despite 96% of 12-17 year-olds in the United States using social media, a vast majority remain unaware of TFGBV and digital abuse. This lack of education exacerbates the digital literacy gap, leaving young people—the primary targets of TFGBV—particularly vulnerable.

By tackling these challenges head-on, we aim to create a safer and more informed digital environment, empowering individuals to reclaim their online agency and protect themselves from digital harm.
